ASUS has gotten the upper hand in the quad-core tablet race with its Transformer Prime tablet already available for pre-order in North America, but Acer and Lenovo are planning to close the gap with their own releases in early 2012.

It was previously reported that Lenovo would release their own quad-core tablet by the end of 2011, but the latest reports are pointing towards the first quarter of 2012 instead. Acer is also expected to release its quad-core tablet around the same time, with both companies' tablets featuring NVIDIA's Tegra 3 and Google's latest version of its mobile OS, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Sources have also stated the estimated prices for the quad-core tablets to range between US$459 to US$599.
