Previously rumored to launch in the U.S, Samsung officials have confirmed that the Galaxy Note III will be unveiled at IFA 2013 in Germany.

According to The Korean Times, Samsung officials said that the upcoming device will sport a 5.9-inch display which is an increase of 0.4-inch from the current Galaxy Note II. Speculation of a flexible AMOLED display debuting on the device is also shot down by the company co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun. Apparently, Samsung needs more time to develop the flexible displays.

Samsung unveiled its new line of flexible OLED displays at CES 2013. Dubbed "YOUM", the flexible display line-up uses extremely thin plastic instead of glass, making it bendable and virtually unbreakable. Its rival, LG is planning to unveil a smartphone with flexible OLED display in Q4 2013.

It makes sense for Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Note III at IFA 2013 in Germany as it did the same for the Galaxy Note II last year. However, unlike previous years, Samsung is going to face some stiff competition this year as other phone makers have released similar products in this market segment.

Huawei launched the Ascend Mate at CES 2013, which has a 6.1-inch IPS+, 720p display and a large 4,050mAh battery. We also had a preview of LG's upcoming Optimus G Pro at MWC 2013, which trumps the Galaxy Note II and Huawei Ascend Mate with its 5.5-inch Full-HD display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor.
