According a Q1, 2013 report by Canalys, 59.5 percent of all smart devices in the market -- 308.7 million smartphones, tablets and notebooks -- were running Google's Android operating system. Apple was in second place with a 19.3 percent market share and Microsoft had a market share of 18.1, just slightly behind Apple.

A leaked Google Play Services (v3.1.36) update file contains codes that hint at a new multi-player social gaming network called Google Games. This new gaming network (expected to be revealed during Google I/O) will be similar to Apple's Game Center for iOS and Microsoft's Xbox Live for Xbox, which includes leaderboards, achievements and more.

In the first quarter of 2013, Apple managed to regain fifth place in the Chinese mobile market with an eight percent market share. For the last two quarters in 2012, it was languishing in 6th place, while Samsung remained firmly in the top spot with a 20 percent market share.

Twitter has recently confirmed that it will be closing TweetDeck mobile apps on May 7. TweetDeck apps for Android, iOS and Adobe AIR will be removed from their app stores and will cease to function. TweetDeck for web and Chrome however will still be kept alive, and will be updated weekly.

Professional network LinkedIn has recently confirmed its acquisition of 3-year-old news reading app, Pulse Newsreader, for about US$90 Million. 90% of deal was settled with LinkedIn stock, while 10% was in cash.

Not that you'd need another reason to get a Samsung Galaxy S4, but a recent tear down of the device revealed that the S4 is much easier to repair than most handsets out in the market now, including the Galaxy S3.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, has posted an apology on Apple's Chinese website, followed by details on how the company would amend its warranty policies in China. The apology comes after China's state-run media criticized Apple's warranty policies on certain products.

The new Flipboard update to version 2.0 now allows users to create and curate their own private or public digital magazines with content from all over the web. The update is only available for the iOS version of the app, but Flipboard promises that the Android update is on its way.

Yahoo has announced yet another high profile acquisition of a mobile oriented startup. This time it's London based Summly, headed by 17-year-old entrepreneur Nick D'Aloisio, who started the company when he was 15.

Jony Ive, who has recently taken over Apple's Human Interface team, is said to be pushing for a simpler, "flat design" for the upcoming iOS.
