Test Setup

Our system was based on a MSI K8N Diamond Plus motherboard, flashed with the latest BIOS in order to enable support for the integrated PCI Express switch found on all GeForce 7950 GX2 cards. You do not need to have a SLI motherboard to use this card but the BIOS update is a must. This board was installed with an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6GHz) processor and up to 1GB of low latency DDR400 memory from Kingston. A Seagate SATA hard drive was used and it had Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and DirectX 9.0c.

As the XFX is the third retail GeForce 7950 GX2 card that we have tested, we have also included the results for these other cards, along with a few other related scores for your reference. Note that all GeForce 7950 GX2 cards in the comparison are running ForceWare 91.29 while the other non-GeForce 7950 GX2 cards are as follows

  • NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB (ForceWare 84.21)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT 256MB - SLI (ForceWare 84.21)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB - SLI (ForceWare 84.21)
  • ATI Radeon X1900 XTX 512MB (Catalyst 6.5)

The following benchmarks were used:

  • Futuremark 3DMark05 Pro (version 120)
  • Futuremark 3DMark06 Pro (version 102)
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (version 1.1)
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory (version 1.3)
  • F.E.A.R
  • Quake 4
