Trinity of Fans - Galaxy GeForce GTX 285 OC with AC Edition

Conclusion

Champion of Cool

In the case of the Galaxy GTX 285 AC, it seems that size does matter. The huge triple fan Accelero Xtreme GTX 280 VGA cooler, as outlandish and over-the-top as it may look, actually gets the job done. And in outstanding fashion too, may we add. Our temperature testing segment easily recorded one of the lowest outcomes we've ever seen for a high-end graphics card - a hefty improvement upon NVIDIA's stock cooler. Also, thanks the Galaxy's cooler, we managed to get more than decent overclocking done too.

However, its size might prove to be a deterrent for some users. A key concern would be getting the card to fit in the casing. As we've already seen, the Galaxy GTX 285 AC is bigger than even NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 295, and unless your casing is large enough, accommodating the card could prove to be troublesome.

Other than that, the Galaxy GTX 285 AC has everything else pretty much covered. The card's overall performance is decent and the cooler works wonderfully. The XtremeTuner overclocking utility, though basic, does an adequate job of allowing users to get some overclocking done without messing around with more dangerous controls like voltage tweaking.

The Galaxy GeForce GTX 285 OC with AC Edition is by far the coolest GTX-200 class card we've ever tested and consequently, the most overclockable of its class as well. With the aid of a better tweaking utility, we could probably have achieved even more phenomenal overclocking results.

What's more, with a recommended retail price of US$339, it is extremely good value for money. With most other GeForce GTX 285 cards priced similarly, the Galaxy GeForce GTX 285 AC has the advantage of its customized Accelero Xtreme VGA cooler, which by itself costs about US$60. This, coupled with its competent performance, generous overhead for overclocking and the easy tweaking software, makes the Galaxy GeForce GTX 285 AC Edition one of the more well thought out graphics card we've had the pleasure to review.
