Palit GeForce GTX 470 - Providing Relief from the Heat

Two is Better than One

Two is Better than One

First seen at NVIDIA's regional Press Conference in Vietnam, Palit's custom-design GeForce GTX 470 has finally made its way into our labs.

Following closely on the heel's of Galaxy's able GeForce GTX 470 GC version, Palit's own design hopes to further improve on the reference card's operating temperatures by employing a twin fan custom cooler design.

An increasing number of custom design GeForce GTX 470 cards are making their appearance in the market. This is Palit's take.

Apart from the customized cooler, the Palit GeForce GTX 470 is also unique in its offerings of video output connectivity. While NVIDIA's reference design card offers a two DVI ports and a single mini-HDMI port, Palit has decided to go with twin DVI ports and a single HDMI and DisplayPort for their cards. The inclusion of a DisplayPort and HDMI port makes the card more flexible and easier to pair with monitors. That said, the card is still capable of driving only up to two monitors simultaneously.

Moving along, we were disappointed to find that the card sports reference clock speeds, meaning 607MHz at the core, 1215MHz at the shaders and 3348MHz DDR at the memory.

Here's a look at the card:

The orange and black color scheme is eye-catching, and here we can clearly see the twin fans. Look closely and under the fans you'll catch a glimpse of heat pipes which help dissipate heat evenly across the multiple cooling fins.

Two DVI ports complemented by a single HDMI port and DisplayPort.

Twin SLI connectors come as standard, making 3-way SLI possible.

The card is powered by two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. A PSU rated for at least 550W is recommended.
