Test Setup

The excellent ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe was our anchor for the test system. We also went with an Athlon 64 3500+ processor and up to 1GB of Corsair DDR400 RAM (dual channel mode). The SATA hard drive used was a Seagate 7200.7 and we installed Microsoft's Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1) and updated DirectX to the 9.0c version to ensure compatibility with the latest games.

Like our previous review on the Sapphire Radeon X1900 XTX 512MB, we used ATI's Catalyst 5.13 for all the ATI cards, including the same modified drivers that added support for the X1900 series. The MSI RX1900XTX-VT2D512E follows the frequencies of the reference design and hence it should perform similarly to the Sapphire card that we had tested before. As for the NVIDIA cards, they were using ForceWare 81.95 and the following benchmarks were tested in this review:

  • Futuremark 3DMark05 Pro (version 120)
  • Futuremark 3DMark06 Pro (version 102)
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (version 1.1)
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory (version 1.3)
  • Quake 4
