The MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E

The custom decal on the cooler of the MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E seems to show more effort than the hastily pasted sticker that we are used to seeing but the fact remains that the MSI-NX7600GT-T2D256E is a reference card. MSI probably had more time to prepare its offering this time but with the simultaneous launch of the GeForce 7600 GT from over ten vendors, it was only logical that NVIDIA was calling the shots here. Hence, most GeForce 7600 GT on the market now are virtual clones of each other and the MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E is one of them. However recently, MSI has launched their customized version that uses a red PCB among a few other minor changes such as the cooler. Additionally, the VIVO version as well follows this new design. If you are really keen on a more vendor-customized version, do check the package details on this matter or ask your retailer about them. The normal green edition will be in retail as well and that's what we are checking out today.

As you might have expected, the MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E looks just like any other reference card.

Nothing important at the back of the card, besides the many stickers and serial numbers.

As we had noticed on the ASUS EN7600GT, the first GeForce 7600 GT to land in our labs, the cooler fan on the GeForce 7600 GT may not look very aggressive but it does generate some noise. It's not as bad as some other cards that we have encountered in the past but compared to recent NVIDIA cards, it is one of the worst. The MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E was unable to avoid this inherited weakness of the reference card and we were constantly reminded of the persistent whoosh of its cooler during testing.

The 1.4ns rated memory chips are set to run at 1400MHz on the GeForce 7600 GT and there's not really that much more tolerance for greater speed.

By now, you should know that the MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E is clocked at the default 560MHz for the core and 1400MHz DDR for its memory. However, like many MSI graphics products, its Dynamic Overclocking Technology (D.O.T) tool has been included to help novices overclock with simple, preset profiles.

Another pretty standard fixture for the I/O connectivity options.

Unlike the older GeForce 6 series, you would also get a dual-link DVI-I output on the GeForce 7600 GT, which would benefit those intending to upgrade to those massive 30-inch LCD monitors with ultra-high native resolutions. The accessories and software are pretty good in our opinion and is a far more palatable collection as compared to ASUS, with a full new game and its Star DVD Family of multimedia and DVD applications (CyberLink OEM). Here is the detailed list of items found in the package:-

  • 2 x DVI-to-VGA adaptors
  • S-Video extension cable
  • 9-pin mini-DIN to Component/S-Video dongle
  • User Manual
  • Quick Installation Guide
  • MSI Multimedia (Drivers & Utilities)
  • MSI Star DVD Family
  • Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
