Are You Game Enough?

Are You Game Enough?

Packing a punch into a 14.1-inch frame is MSI's latest gaming grade notebook, the MSI GX400. While similar sized 14.1-inch notebooks tend to shy on the graphics processing prowess, the GX400 has taken the plunge and gone ahead with a better discrete graphics option found in bigger notebooks in the form of a NVIDIA 9600M GT. Typically, most 14.1-inch notebooks aren't really designed with gamers in mind, so it's nice to see a capable one in this form factor.

Also at 2.2kg (just 200g above what most people would consider portable), it's also light enough to make it much more portable compared to heavier and more cumbersome 15 to 17-inch notebooks that do have options to be equipped with a GeForce 9600M GT graphics chipset or its equivalent. Sounds like a good thing to us, but we'll see how it holds up when we embark on our performance and battery tests just a couple of pages away. For now, here's a look at the GX400 notebook that sports a design that you'll find familiar with MSI's distinct styling.

The MSI GX400, all ready to do battle.

The front bevels out to a thinner edge but there's still space for the audio input and outpu jacks.

The right side is relatively clean with just the optical drive slot and a USB 2.0 port.

The left side has a little more connectivity options with another USB port, a HDMI port, an eSATA-USB combo port, a card reader, an ExpressCard/34 slot and an analog video out.

If you're wondering where the LAN jack is, it's located at the back together with the power jack and yet another USB port.
