Here, we go through some figures to better understand the read capabilities of the LITE-ON drive using Nero DVD Speed. This is tested with two commercially pressed DVD-ROMs (a single-layer and a dual-layer) and four recordable DVD media ((DVD-R. DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW).
With a read speed of 16x for write-once DVD media and 12x for dual layer discs, the LG GSA-H62N is certainly one of the faster drives on paper. In actual fact, 12x is the average speed that you'll probably experience in most cases. However, it does compare well against the ASUS SATA writer that we had reviewed previously. CPU utilization however remained quite high. Similar to the ASUS, we saw rates of up to 29% on the LG, which is very much higher than the usual 3 to 4% on the typical IDE drive.
