Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - Quad Core goes 'Mainstream'

SPEC CPU2000 v1.3

Results - SPEC CPU2000 v1.3

As anticipated, the base scores for integer and floating point performance of both dual-core and quad-core processors in SPEC CPU2000 1.3 are almost identical. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 corresponds with the Core 2 Duo E6600 just like the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 tallied with that of the Core 2 Duo E6700. AMD's most expensive processor unfortunately could only manage to hold up the rear end of the performance graph.

In SPEC CPU's rate tests that simulates running multiple copies of the workload, the throughput of the quad-core processors are phenomenal as shown in the 4-user workload scores. Interestingly, we can also see a trend that the quad-core processors fare a tad better than the respective dual-core counterparts even in the 2-user workload tests.
