The HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is an all-in-one that is aimed at the small office/ home office segment. With the ability to print, scan, fax and copy, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus also features Wi-Fi connectivity for added convenience.
Sporting an industrial, no-nonsense design, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus sits on the large side of things, being noticeably heftier than some of its inkjet-powered peers such as the Brother MFC-J825DW. However, one can’t help but feel that the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is built for some heavy-duty printing and after running through our usual gamut of tests, we have to agree.
The OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus performed well in all of our tests, excelling when printing color documents. Monochrome print jobs were sufficiently dark and reasonably sharp, with a slight softness around the edges if you really look hard enough, though it’s not an issue that will affect the quality and presentation of business documents.
As mentioned earlier, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus excelled in printing color documents, with good color saturation, as well as sharp text and graphics. However, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus faltered slightly when it came to printing photographs, with colors coming out a little warmer than we’d have liked, while the overall print wasn’t as smooth and sharp when compared to its peers. One plus point about this printer is that it comes with duplex print capability right out of the box, thanks to a 50-sheet ADF (automatic document feeder). Scanning performance was adequate over the board, including documents scanned at 300 dpi. Last but not least, this printer also sports HP’s ePrint functionality, which lets you setup a custom email address for the printer, and receive print jobs from virtually anywhere around the world, simply by sending out an email.
Overall, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is a compelling buy for those looking for a good heavy duty workhorse addition to their home / small office. Good print quality and snappy print speeds will certainly help boost productivity, while the asking price is reasonable enough to not burn a hole in your pocket - especially for its capabilities.
