Test Setup

For this comparison, our test system was as usual built on MSI's K8N Diamond Plus motherboard, coupled with an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6GHz) processor. We used 1GB of Kingston low latency DDR400 RAM installed in dual channel mode and a 80GB SATA hard drive from Seagate. The operating system used was Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and to ensure that all the games work perfectly, the latest DirectX 9.0c was installed.

We compared the HIS against its fellow peer, ATI's standard Radeon X1900 XTX and the lesser Radeon X1900 XT. All these ATI cards were running Catalyst 6.5 drivers. Meanwhile, we also included the attention grabbing NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2, which is arguably the top dog now thanks to its dual GPU and it used ForceWare 91.29 drivers. Finally, the GeForce 7900 GTX was also thrown in as a reference along with 84.21 drivers. The following benchmarks were tested:

  • Futuremark 3DMark05 Pro (version 120)
  • Futuremark 3DMark06 Pro (version 102)
  • F.E.A.R
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory (version 1.3)
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (version 1.1)
  • Quake 4
