Test Setup
Our usual graphics test rig was put to use again for this review. Consisting of an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6GHz) processor paired with 1GB of Kingston low latency DDR400 RAM in dual channel mode, these components were installed on a MSI K8N Diamond Plus motherboard. The hard drive used was a simple Seagate 7200.7 SATA with a clean installation of Windows XP Professional. This was updated to Service Pack 2 and DirectX 9.0c before we started our benchmarks.
As we stated before, there are more than a handful of overclocked GeForce 7900 GT graphics cards available now. We have lined up a few of them for comparison in the list below, along with information about their clock speeds. No two cards are the same, so it can be hard pinning down a clear winner based on their specs. We have also added a reference version and a GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB to illustrate the differences between them.
- Gigabyte GV-NX79T256DP-RH (525/1440MHz DDR)
- MSI NX7900GT-VT2D256E-HD (500/1530MHz DDR)
- Palit GeForce 7900 GT (550/1320MHz DDR)
- XFX GeForce 7900 GT 256MB Extreme Edition (520/1500MHz DDR)
- MSI NX7900GT-T2D256E (Stock - 450/1320MHz DDR)
- NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB
The following benchmarks were tested for all cards, with ForceWare 84.21 installed.
- Futuremark 3DMark05 (ver. 120)
- Futuremark 3DMark06 (ver. 102)
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
- F.E.A.R
- Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
- Quake 4
