Overclocking

We have had a relative lack of success with overclocking the GeForce 7950 GX2 by conventional means so with the Gigabyte GV-3D1-7950-RH, we expected more of the same. Hence, it was a bit of a surprise to find the Gigabyte having the extra headroom for overclocking. While the core obstinately failed to work at more than 600MHz, we got the Gigabyte's memory clocks up to 1560MHz, a small improvement over the 1440MHz we managed on the MSI. This paper gain was however tempered by the knowledge that with the core clock still stuck at 600MHz, we were unlikely to see any drastic gains for the Gigabyte over the MSI. The final 3DMark06 scores bore out that prediction, as the difference was not even 1% between the two overclocked GeForce 7950 GX2 cards.
