A Speaker to Play Them All

A Speaker to Play Them All

The market is saturated with products that offer music playback. From mobile "music" phones, MP3 players, to PMPs – users are satisfying their audio cravings like never before. In line with this, manufacturers are producing various accessories to give the best audio experience possible. Jabra, a company known for its Bluetooth headsets and hands free solutions has worked hand-in-hand with Klipsch Audio Technologies, a well-known speaker manufacturer to introduce the Jabra S5010 - a speaker system designed for mobile devices.

Versatile, Multi-Purpose

A sleek black and silver finish gives the S5010 a simple yet elegant appearance. Accessing and adjusting the S5010 is a snap as its power and volume buttons are conveniently located up front. The 2.5mm jack and mini-USB input is cleverly hidden under the rubber door, so users can conceal any excess cable. At the back of the unit, users will find the power connector and an auxiliary 3.5mm input plug.

While the S5010’s façade looks similar to any of the numerous speaker systems designed for the iPod, Jabra and Klipsch has made sure that it will do more than that. The great thing about the Jabra S5010 is that it is flexible. It is capable of playing tunes from almost any digital device, be it a mobile phone, MP3 player, notebook or PC. Moreover, it can be connected to two devices at one time, allowing users easy access to their audio files without having to remove or switch the said devices.

Good Vibes

The Jabra S5010 features dual 2.5-inch fiber-composite woofers and two ¾-inch tweeters to cover the mid and high range frequencies. Although the speakers can produce the low and high frequencies, it is not advisable to push the speakers by setting its volume to the maximum. Instead, the key to enhancing the listening experience is to place the S5010 close to a wall or in a corner.

While there is an audible difference between placing the S5010 near a wall and on the table, we feel that the bass still lacked that punch despite being placed optimally besides a wall. However, the overall audio experience was good considering the product specifications and its modest size.

Final Thoughts

While making yet another speaker system for mobile devices may seem risky in an increasingly saturated market, this joint product venture by Jabra and Klipsch looks quite promising. Many existing competitors are unable to offer the unrivaled compatibility found on the S5010. With its undisputed versatility, high quality sound and great design all packaged with a reasonable MSRP of US$149, the Jabra S5010 simply blows the competition away.
