Catching the Eclipse - MSI's X58 Motherboard Previewed

MSI Eclipse Continued

We'll get to testing this and other X58 boards once the processor actually arrives. As for now, enjoy the rest of the shots of the Eclipse and start saving up. These motherboards don't exactly look cheap, and we all know that the Core i7 definitely won't be either during launch period.

MSI has up to 10 SATA ports onboard for the Eclipse, thanks to the use of third party controllers from JMicron, with two additional eSATA ports at the rear. The placement and alignment were nicely done as they do not interfere with any long graphics cards.

MSI has gotten on the bandwagon for having nice solid buttons for Power and Reset on the board and the Eclipse is no different. There's even an extra button presumably to enable the onboard LED panel. Meanwhile the red CPU_CLK1 jumpers appear to be related to overclocking, similar to what we saw recently on the MSI DKA790GX Platinum.

A rather polished and elaborate LED panel for troubleshooting and diagnostics purposes.

Our first X58 preview had the ASUS and its support for Serial Attached SCSI. While MSI has not gone for such a high-end feature, the Eclipse is not lacking when it comes to features and it will be interesting to find out which one comes out tops.
