A Case for Inkjet
Inkjet all-in-ones (AIOs) have continued to grow in popularity despite the downward price trend of their laser counterparts. Prices for the former can range from slightly over S$100 to over S$700, while prices for the latter can easily break the S$1,000 barrier if you want something of higher quality.
Brother Industries, Ltd. (commonly known as Brother) is certainly no stranger to printers. For many years, it has marketed both inkjet and laser all-in-ones (Brother calls them Multi-Function Centers), as well as single-function laser and LED printers.
What we’ve here is the Brother MFC-J6910DW. Announced in Singapore on 20th of April, this is a compact four-in-one (print, copy, scan, fax) inkjet AIO with a major twist: it handles A3 media. In fact, Brother has released not one, but three A3 inkjet AIOs - the other two being the MFC-J6510DW and MFC-J6710DW. The MFC-J6910DW is the highest end model in the series. These new models are also the successors to Brother's previous line of A3 color inkjet AIOs.
Beyond its headline A3 capabilities, the MFC-J6910DW sports a 35-page ADF (automatic document feeder), not one, but two 250-sheet paper input tray (thus bringing total paper capacity to 500 sheets), a 33.6Kbps modem for faxing, an auto duplexer unit, two memory card slots that accept a myriad of card types, a PictBridge-enabled USB port, and built-in wired and wireless networking. It also uses individual ink cartridges (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) that are separate from the print head assembly. Sounds like it has been crammed with all that a SOHO outfit would ever need. Read on for our detailed assessment.
