Apple Macbook - Pretty Pretty Please?

Premium Pricing

Premium Pricing? Hey it's a Mac!

Apple's products have always been the pricier than the Windows-equivalent based notebooks, but their high margin low volume pricing strategy seems to be working out for them (though reports of their lower volume of sales and profits have surfaced as of recent and quite the norm given this economic recession). The MacBook does buck this trend somewhat - it's not as pricey as what you may expect from an Apple product. This may seem somewhat contradictory when we start pointing out that you could probably get similar spec'd products from the bigger PC manufacturers at a much lower price, but the S$2,088 is pretty affordable to be honest.

Also, you'll not find the same quality construction and design used in the Apple MacBook on other notebooks at the moment, which means you're also paying for that differentiation in order to stand out. That's understandable, especially if you're a lifelong Mac fan, but those on the Windows side of things will probably not quite get the same picture. Then again, the base MacBook model is definitely cheap enough for you to consider a switch, and that's probably what Apple has in mind - lure more people to bite into a Macbook with a palatable price tag and increase its market share and probably gain more loyalists in the process.

We're not claiming to be mind readers or experts regarding their plans, but what we've seen so far leaves us guessing that this is probably what they have in mind. The MacBook is definitely a good notebook to switch to if you're on the PC side, and we can't deny its build, quality and design. You'll love the aluminum casing, keyboard, and smooth silky trackpad, but if you're a purist or just someone (like us) who wants a screen that doesn't throw a reflection at you every time you look at it, then that's the only drawback that we've found so far.

For hardcore Apple fans, the new basic Macbook might not seem much to them and they might probably opt to pay much more for a higher spec'd model or the MacBook Pro. Then again, we would like to point out that this base model is nothing to disregard of, and is definitely a very decent notebook. If you ever considered switching or at least giving Apple's OSX a try, well folks, this base MacBook is definitely your ticket. Oh yeah, and one more thing...
