Preview - MSI K9A2 Platinum

While you're waiting for a full review of the AMD Phenom processor and 790FX chipset, check out some of the upcoming AMD 790FX motherboards in the next few pages to whet your appetite. First up, we have the MSI K9A2 Platinum, MSI's newest high-end AMD 790FX motherboard. With the new chipset, MSI boasts better thermal output and efficiency. They've even developed a new chipset cooler that is smaller and of a lower profile than the Circu-Pipe found on high-end Intel 3-series motherboards.

The K9A2 Platinum with support for the new AMD Phenom cores and using the AMD 790FX chipset.

The AMD 790FX chipset for your viewing pleasure. MSI is still using an older SB600 chipset for the south bridge though.

We have your usual array of four DDR2 dual-channel DIMM slots.

Taking advantage of the reduced thermal output of the 790FX chipset, MSI uses a smaller cooler compared to their P35 offerings. However, it is still linked up to a heat-pipe system.
