ZTE launches octacore-powered Blade S smartphone

ZTE launched the Blade S6 smartphone today, an affordably priced 5-inch 4G LTE smartphone with an aluminum build and 13MP Sony camera. It is also the first smartphone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon octacore 615 processor running on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Design-wise, the 5-inch smartphone bears a rather striking resemblance to Apple's iPhone 6, with a similar shape, including rounded edges and a slightly curved front display.

The 5-inch phone has a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution display (293 ppi) and boasts a Sony IMX214 13MP rear camera. Its rear camera is complemented by a 5MP front shooter with a wide angle 80 degree lens, perfect for selfies.

The phone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with ZTE's MiFavor 3.0 UI over the top. ZTE's concept behind the phone is for it to be 'fun' and with that in mind, it has included a number of gesture-based 'SmartSense' commands, which includes the ability to shake the phone to turn on and off its LED torchlight, and a mirror mode that lets you raise the phone to your face to automatically activate the front-facing camera.

The ZTE Blade S6 will be available in silver or matte pink, and will launch globally in Q1 this year for US$249.99 (~S$338). The phone will be available online exclusively at Aliexpress, with worldwide shipping waived for customers who buy the phone this way.

The Blade S6 will be available in matt pink or silver.
