You can pay for rides on public transport with EZ-Link Wearables

Note: This article was first published on 21st January 2017.

Commuters in Singapore will be the first in South East Asia to use wearables for payments on public transit.

Announced earlier today by EZ-Link, commuters have the option to choose one of the two EZ-Link Wearables which are the Batman v Superman Fitness Tracker X EZ-Link and Garmin Vivosmart HR with EZ-Link. Both devices double as fitness trackers which can record the steps taken, amount of calories burnt and sleep quality.

Aside from public transit, the EZ-Link Wearables can be used for contactless payments at more than 300,000 ez-link acceptance points islandwide. Similar to the conventional EZ-Link cards, you can top-up the stored value in the Wearables at the top-up machines.

The Batman v Superman Fitness Tracker X EZ-Link will be available exclusively on My EZ-Link Online Shop from 24 January, 11 am at a retail price of $42.80 (inclusive of GST). The Garmin vivosmart HR with EZ-Link will be available at major retailers from end March at S$259. The latter is more expensive as it allows you to track your heart rate and receive notifications (e.g. WhatsApp messages) from the paired phone on the fitness tracker.
