Xbox One promotion has console price drop, extra controller with some sets

The Xbox One might not be the leader in the current console wars, but that doesn't mean it is a bad machine.

Microsoft Singapore has just announced that it's bundling the Xbox One with Kinect with an extra controller at no extra charge at all retail outlets. While there have been similar promotions, they have mostly been relegate to tech fairs like the recent IT Show and Sitex.

The extra controller only comes with Xbox One sets that come with the Kinect, which retails at $739. The promotion will run till 30 June 2015, after which the Xbox One with Kinect will probably return to its solo controller offering.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, Microsoft is also dropping the Kinect-less Xbox One's price from $639 to $569. The new temporary price drop will be in effect until 30 June 2015 as well.

Buy either console and you can get a 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription card for $20 off, making it $59.90 instead of its regular $79.90. An Xbox Live Gold subscription is needed if you want to play online with the Xbox One or Xbox 360, similar to how Playstation Plus works on the PS4.

While the Xbox One is struggling on multi-platform games, Microsoft arguably has the better exclusives lined up for release in 2015, with Halo 5 leading the charge. Also, the Xbox One controller is also arguably the best controller in existence right now, at least if you're a fan of rumble feedback.

Still, if you're going to bite and get an Xbox One because of the promotion, we suggest you hold off on the purchase till after E3 (June 16 - 18) is over. While it's unlikely that Microsoft will release a slimmer version of the Xbox One so soon, there might be other surprises from the conference that could influence your buying decision, like upcoming limited edition consoles or bundles.
