If you are looking for a reliable way to store and archive your data, ASUS' new ZenDrive U7M external USB DVD writer is worth a look.

That's because this new external USB DVD writer supports M-Disc, an optical disc technology that aims to provide archival media longevity. According to M-Disc, a properly stored M-Disc can retain data for over 1000 years.

According to ASUS, this compares favorably to other popular forms of storage media - hard disk drives, flash drives and other forms of writable media have a typical average lifespan of around 8 years.

The ZenDrive U7M is also speedy. It has a 24x CD read/write speed and an 8x DVD read/write speed. Writing to M-Discs is slightly slower as it only has a 4x M-Disc write speed.

Measuring just 13mm thick and weighing 228g, the ZenDrive U7M is also really portable.

The ASUS ZenDrive U7M is available now and is priced at S$69. It will come with two M-Discs, CyberLink Power2Go 8 disc-burning software and Nero BackItUp for Android.
