WhatsApp to Extend Subscription to iOS
WhatsApp to Extend Subscription to iOS

WhatsApp is set to refurbish its iOS app by switching the present subscription-based service into one with an annual subscription. This means that WhatsApp will be standardized to fall in line with its current apps running on the Android, BlackBerry, Nokia, and Windows Phone platforms.
The company intends to make the move this year (exact date has not been set), so new users would pay a yearly fee instead of purchasing a one-time download. The new subscription type will be rolled out to new users, and is expected to follow the similar pricing scheme as its other apps, that is, free for the first year, then cost US$1 per subsequent year rather than the lifetime US$0.99 purchase that users make on iOS at the moment.
