TYAN Reveals Server Platforms Featuring The New AMD Opteron 4100 Processor

Fremont, Calif., June 23rd, 2010 - TYAN, an industry-leading server platform provider, and a subsidiary of MiTAC International Corp., today announced its latest platforms that fully support the AMD Opteron 4100 Series processor (formerly code-named “Lisbon"). The new processors allow for increased power efficiency with improved power management, PCIE Gen 2, improved HyperTransport technology and superior overall value.

The TYAN S8226 and GT24-B8226 are entry-level platforms targeting SMB Data Center environments which require outstanding overall performance at a low cost of ownership. The TYAN S8228 and YR190-B8228 are high density server platforms that target the IPDC, Render farm, small cluster, social networking and video streaming customer segments that require high compute density in a limited rack space. All four TYAN platforms are designed to manage multiple tasks ranging from general purpose to highly-threaded, mission-critical workloads. TYAN’s products offer superior performance through adoption of the ultra-low-power AMD Opteron 4000 Series platform (formerly codenamed “Adelaide”) and the SR5650 chipset utilizing the HT1 interconnects.

“TYAN continues to create and expand its product lines through adopting the latest AMD technology,” said Albert Mu, vice president of Enterprise Business Unit of MiTAC International Corporation. “In order to meet our customers’ critical requirements, TYAN is introducing platforms based on the new AMD Opteron 4100 processor series that delivers improved performance within the same thermal environment, while also providing exceptional value.”

“TYAN continues to supply the market with AMD based server solutions that are designed to deliver competitive end user advantage across multiple platforms,” said Patrick Patla, vice president and general manager, Server and Embedded Divisions, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “The AMD Opteron 4000 Series platform allows TYAN the flexibility to create four new rack-optimized motherboards, which provide a low-power solution without compromising performance.”

The TYAN S8226 is a rack-optimized motherboard targeted at enterprise applications. The TYAN S8226 is designed with AMD Opteron 4100 Series processors, (6+6) DDR-III R/U-DIMM slots, GbE, and 8-port SAS 6G controller support. The TYAN GT24-B8226 1U Barebones Server is targeted at CPU-intensive HPC applications. The GT24 B8226 is designed with 3.5-inch hot-swap HDDs, FH/FL PCI-E Gen. 2 x16 slots, which is targeted at CPU-intensive HPC applications.

The TYAN S8228 motherboard is targeted at IPDC high density deployment. The S8228 is designed with AMD Opteron 4100 series processors, (6+6) DDR-III R/U-DIMM slots, GbE, and 4-port SATA-II controller. The TYAN YR190 B8228 1U Barebones Server is target to mainstream enterprise server platform and render farm computing clusters. The TYAN YR190 B8228 is design with  2.5-inch hot-swap HDDs, and HH/HL PCI-E Gen. 2×16 slot.

All of TYAN AMD Opteron 4100 Series-based servers are expected to be available in Q3. Please visit http://www.tyan.com for more information.
