Toyota Plans to Create Social Networking Service for Car Owners

Toyota has plans to create a new social networking service for car owners to interact with their vehicles. Known as "Toyota Friend", the Twitter-like service is said to be built on an open-source cloud platform with the help of Microsoft and US Internet company, Salesforce.com.

The Huffington Post - Toyota is setting up a social networking service with the help of a U.S. Internet company and Microsoft so drivers can interact with their cars in ways similar to Twitter and Facebook.

Toyota hopes to kickoff "Toyota Friend" in Japan by 2012, followed by a global launch at a later date. The social application will be applied on electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles for its first phase. More on this story here.
