Toshiba to Boost HDD Production by 35% to Meet Demand

According to Reuters, Toshiba will be increasing the production of hard disk drives by about 35% in the next three years. This is a response to an increase in storage demands from data centers and PC manufacturers.
The total investment from Toshiba is expected to be between 15 billion yen (S$238.5 million) and 18 billion yen (S$286.2 million). The money will be used for expanding three plants located in the Philippines and China.
Toshiba currently produces 11 million units monthly, but by the end of 2012, that number is expected to be about 12 million units, and 15 million by 2014. Toshiba expects sales of its HDDs and SSDs to increase to 850 billion yen (S$13.5 billion) in 2015, almost double of the 400 billion yen it made in 2011 from storage sales.
