Thailand Flood Affect HDD Supplies

Thailand is currently experiencing one of the worst flooding in its history. Several hundred people have already been killed, and millions more affected in some way or another. The floods also affected those of us who are nowhere close to Thailand, with holidays and weddings being cancelled or delayed.

Another way it will directly affect us is via the tech industry, which felt the incredible impact of the flood in Thailand, because according to Notebook Review, and iSuppli, Thailand produces approximately a quarter of the world's hard drives.

The largest HDD makers directly hit by the floods are Western Digital, Toshiba and Seagate. Major PC manufacturing companies are now scrambling to look for alternatives.

Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook, who replaced the late Steve Jobs, said he is "virtually certain there will be an overall industry shortage of disk drives," notes an Associated Press report.
