Synology Launches DiskStation DS413 and DX513

Synology has introduced the DiskStation DS413, a 4-bay NAS server equipped with the latest technologies to minimize power consumption. Suitable for small to medium-sized businesses to centralize data backups and synchronize files across different platforms with minimum time and effort, the system's hibernation mode consumes a mere 3.3W, and can be brought back to full operation within seconds via web access. Additionally, it consumes only 13W and 35.6W in hard drive hibernation and full operation modes respectively.

One of the first NAS servers to deploy Freescale Semiconductor's QorlQ Processor platform, the DS413 enables deep sleep power management, and improved multi-tasking performance. To ensure optimal services uptime, DS413 incorporates advanced reliability technologies including passive CPU cooling, two redundant 92 mm system fans, and hot-swappable drives.

Also announced is the DX513, a new 5-bay expansion solution for selected DiskStations with hot-swappable drive design aimed at businesses and power users. When storage drives on Synology DiskStations reach their capacity limits, it scales up DiskStation storage allowance through an additional five bays. RAID volume expansion can be directly performed by the paired DiskStation without reformatting existing hard drives; this allows continuous service uptime for the paired DiskStation throughout the storage expansion process.

Additionally, the DX513 can function as a great alternative local backup solution if created as an independent volume for the paired DiskStation. It pairs to DiskStations via an eSATA cable with unique connector design on both ends to ensure reliability. Maximum throughput at 3.0 Gb/sec allows DX513 to operate coherently with DiskStation as one single unit.
