Survey Places PlayStation 4 in Pole Position with U.S. Consumers

The holiday season this year is going to be dominated by the introduction of next-generation consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony have announced and fleshed out the specifics for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 respectively. The gaming consoles will go head to head in vying for the consumers' hearts in November this year when they are offcially launched in selected markets.

According to a recent poll conducted by Reuters / Ipsos, the PlayStation 4 seems to be the preferred console for consumers. Out of a total of 1,297 people surveyed a total of 26 percent chose the PlayStation 4 as their choice of console while only 15 percent opted for the Xbox One. The gap between the Sony and Microsoft competitors widens when the focus is shifted on to the younger demographics.

Out of the total participants surveyed, 408 were under the age of 40. A whopping 41 percent of the group picked the PlayStation 4 as their console of choice while the Xbox One garnered only a 15 percent share.

While the overall pool of people surveyed might be small, the poll still gives some insight into the minds of consumers in the United States of America. It seems that all the backtracking by Microsoft over features with regards to the Xbox One has had some negative impact.

What will be more interesting to see is how the sales battle shapes up here in Singapore. PlayStation has already announced that it will go on sale in mid-December while the Xbox One will only arrive on our shores in late 2014. As you can see there is quite a gap between the availability of the consoles. Would even an Xbox platform loyalist wait that long to make the switch to the Xbox One?
