StarHub will be revising its charging system for local voice and video outgoing calls from the beginning of May.

With effect from 1st May 2013, voice and video outgoing local call is charged based on initial block of 1 minute and thereafter at per second rate. This means that calls with duration less than one minute will be charged the full rate of 16.05 cents. A forum thread created by member kutysam brought our attention to this change.

Forum member kutysam shares his view on the impact of StarHub's revision on local voice and video outgoing calls.

SingTel currently charges local talktime based on an initial block of one minute and subsequent blocks of 6 seconds rounded to the nearest cent on a per call basis. Excess local talktime is also charged at 16.05 cents per minute. This leaves M1 as the only telco after 1st May to charge its subscribers on a per-second billing.

When queried on how StarHub is updating its mobile subscribers about this revision, Mr. Tian Ung Ping, Assistant Vice President of Mobile Post-paid Services issued the following statement:

StarHub - "We have updated our website to reflect the new billing method. Additionally, we are informing our mobile post-paid customers through a notice in their next three bills starting April 2013."

StarHub customers will be notified of the revision on the last page of their bill statements.
