StarHub today announced that it will be ending the free Digital Voice Home (DV Home) promotion from 1st September 2012. It will be charging new and existing customers with pay TV and/or home broadband subscriptions a monthly subscription of S$2.10 (inclusive of GST). This new DV Home promotion is valid till 31st December 2013.

DV Home is currently available as a free service without any monthly subscriptions for customers who sign up for StarHub pay TV and/or Home Broadband services. Customers who sign up for the standalone DV Home service will be paying the full monthly subscription rate of S$10.49 (inclusive of GST).

Customers will receive a notification letter along with their next billing statement from 19th July 2012. For customers who receive electronic bills, they will receive an email notification on this matter.

If you decide to terminate your DV Home service, you may do so by submitting an online request at www.starhub.com/dvhtermination or call the customer service hotline at 1633 to access the self-help menu.

StarHub also made the announcement via its Facebook Page, which garned over 38 comments at point of publication. Not surprisingly, customers were unhappy about it. Some are planning to switch to other service providers while others are considering to cancel their DV Home services.

For now, SingTel customers who sign up for its mio Voice standalone service or mio Voice with Broadband or mio TV are paying a monthly subscription fee of S$9.81 (inclusive of GST). M1 is the only telco at the moment to offer a free home fixed line service for customers when they sign up for any of its Fibre Broadband plans. However, customers cannot sign up for it as a standalone service. M1 has no plans to follow in StarHub's footsteps - the telco has officially stated that they continue to offer the service free-of-charge to customers who subscribe to any M1 Home Fibre Broadband service.

Like M1, Johan Buse, SingTel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing has a similar statement: “SingTel currently has no plans to revise its prices for the mio Voice service. To offer our customers greater value, we provide mio Voice as a free service with all our fibre broadband plans. Customers will enjoy unlimited local calls and free fixed-line number retention.”
