Sony just unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z4 hours ago in Japan.

The Xperia Z4 sports a 5.2-inch Full-HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) display and a new OmniBalance Design with a metal frame which is thinner (6.9mm vs 7.3mm) and lighter (144g vs 152gg) than its predecessor the Xperia Z3.

Running under the hood are a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, Android 5.0 Lollipop and a 2,930mAh battery. It has 32GB internal storage space, which is augmented by a microSD memory card slot that supports cards of up to 128GB.

It comes with IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS image sensor and BIONZ Image Processing Engine. Like the Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z4's rear camera is able to shoot up to a maximum of ISO12,800.  A 5-megapixel wide-angle camera that is optimized for taking selfies and video-recording sits at the front of the device.

While the Xperia Z4 is exclusive to the Japanese market, Sony is alleged to have another plan for the global market. According to Russian tech blog Hi-Tech, Sony will be launching a different flagship phone for the rest of the world by the end of May.

Is this the metal-clad phone which was uncovered in a leaked database of Sony documents? Well, only time can tell.
