Sony Confirms PlayStation Vita Will Ship with 512MB RAM

Sony has released the final specs for the PlayStation Vita. Apart from revealing what we already know, like a PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU and quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, Sony also gave the official word that the Vita will ship with 512MB RAM, and not 256MB as rumored.

Late last month, Dani Sánchez-Crespo, CEO of PSP games studio Novarama, hinted at possible hardware reductions of Sony's next-gen portable gaming device such as its memory capacity. "Remember the PSP had 32MB of RAM, we have about ten times that now," said Sánchez-Crespo. That amounts to something just a little more than 256MB if you were to do the math. Other sources claim that "RAM cuts" will be made to lower unit costs for the PS Vita to compete with its direct nemesis, the Nintendo 3DS.

Besides its finalized 512MB RAM capacity, the PS Vita will also carry 128MB of dedicated VRAM and a host of social networking apps such as Twitter and Facebook.
