Sony Announces PMW-300 XDCAM Camcorder at BroadcastAsia
Sony has just announced the new PMW-300 XDCAM camcorder for professionals at BroadcastAsia 2013.
An evolution of the PMW-EX3, the PMW-300 XDCAM is able to record Full-HD at 50Mbps in MPEG HD422. It comes with a 1/2" Exmor Full-HD 3CMOS sensor with improved signal processing. The camcorder has a retractable chest pad for operators who require a flexible semi-shoulder camera.
The PMW-300 features the same EX-mount as the PMW-EX3, making it compatible with 1/2" and 2/3" lenses. The 3.5" LCD viewfinder comes with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, and the camera can record up to 60 frames per second in 720p and up to 30 frames per second in 1080p. Footage can be saved to Sony's SxS memory cards as well as other storage media like SD, Memory Stick and XQD cards. The camera can also be upgraded in the future to support Sony's XAVC codec.
Sony said that the PMW-300 is being announced at BroadcastAsia as the PMW-EX3 has proved a popular model in South-east Asia. The new camcorder will be available in October at a retail price of US$9,400 with a 14x zoom lens. Another kit with a 16x zoom lens will be made available later in the year.
