Sony announces launch of PWX-X200 XDCAM camcorder

The successor to the PMW-200, the PWX-X200 features an improved ½ inch-type 3CMOS sensor that gives you full HD (1920x1080) movie capture with low noise (S/N ratio of 58dB), and high sensitivity of F12 at 1080/59.94i and F13 at 1080/50i.

With one-touch NFC support and wireless functions that can be enabled by attaching the included IFU-WLM3 wireless module, the PWX-X200 can be controlled and monitored remotely via the Content Browser Mobile application on your smart device. Captured files can also sent to a cloud server by connecting to an internet router, and live streaming will be made available via a future firmware upgrade. There’s even an (separately-sold) LTE USB module, which allows live video and audio to be streamed, watched, and recorded at a remote location via a cellular connection.

Key to the PXW-X200, is the new 17 times zoom lens, which offers a 35mm equivalent of 29.3 mm to 499 mm, despite its compact size. With three manual Zoom/Focus/Iris independent control rings, each with a physical end-stop and absolute markings for precise adjustments, the lens is sure to please even the most demanding professional.

The PWX-X200 compresses Full HD footage using MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, and will record to XAVC using 4:2:2 10-bit sampling. In XAVC mode, select between Intra-frame compression at a maximum of 112 Mbps or high-efficiency Long GOP compression at 50/35/25 Mbps. Other formats like MPEG HD422 (50Mbps), MPEG HD420 (35/25 Mbps), MPEG IMX (50 Mbps) and DV (25 Mbps) are also supported, while four channel audio can be recorded in XAVC and MPEG HD422 (24-bit 48 kHz LPCM) or MPEG HD420 (16-bit 48 kHz LPCM).
