Just a few days after its apology for slow mobile wireless speeds, Singtel has yet another one to make for the constant disruptions to Sunday's live telecast of the English Premier League. CEO for Consumer Group, Mr. Yuen Kuan Moon, attributed the glitches to an "unprecedented number of viewers" who were watching the 10 matches during the season finale. The Straits Times reports that while the full extent of the disruption is not known yet, Singtel has mentioned that viewers in several parts of Singapore - Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Tampines, Bukit Panjang and the central area - were 'potentially affected'.

Needless to say, there were many football fans left disgruntled by the interrupted telecast, with some commenting on our forums that it was "worse than an online stream" and that they had to constantly "restart the set top box " because it kept "freezing at the important moments". While SingTel has mentioned that it will contact affected customers directly in the next two weeks "to explain the issue and offer a good will gesture", the Media Development Authority (MDA) doesn't seem to be taking this situation lightly and will be launching an investigation. "We take a serious view of service disruptions and will not hesitate to take firm action against service providers that breach their licensing conditions," said an MDA spokesperson yesterday.
