Shipments Decline 15.2% from Last Quarter, Reports Jon Peddie Research

According to Jon Peddie Research, approximately 16.1 million discrete graphics cards shipped worldwide in the second quarter of 2011. This figure represents a decline of 15.2% compared to first quarter of 2011.

In terms of market share, the drop in shipments did not affect the position of main players Nvidia and AMD, who saw only a slight change in their respective share.

For the year, the discrete graphics cards market is expected to hit $13.8 billion, down 33% from 2010 due to a pull back by consumers and a gradual decline in ASP (Average Selling Price).

With this in mind, consumers may look forward to value-for-money upgrades for their graphic cards. They may also avoid purchasing a graphics card altogether due to increasingly speedy integrated graphics built into AMD's and Intel's latest mainstream processors.
