At CES 2015, Sharp also took the wraps off its 2015 4K TV lineup. And the one that got the most people talking is the Aquos Beyond 4K Ultra HD TV.

This Beyond 4K TV is still a 4K TV, but Sharp says this is the “highest resolution” 4K TV to be available in 2015 (it's due in second half of the year). Akin to what we’ve seen last year, Sharp is once again relying on more sub-pixels to improve image quality. The 80-inch Beyond 4K TV has 66 million sub-pixels, which is 42 million more than a typical 4K TV. In short, through clever splitting and sharing of pixels, Sharp claims an effective resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 for this TV. Of course, the question is, where do we get the 8K content? Regardless, Sharp says 4K content will still look better on this TV than other 4K TVs out there.

For the rest of us though, there’s the UH30, UE30, and UB30 series. The UH30 (available in 70 and 80 inches) shares some technologies with the Beyond 4K TV, like the Spectros tech, which enables a wider color gamut. It runs Android TV, is THX 4K-certified, supports HDMI 2.0, and sports a quad-core processor.

Further down the line are the UE30 (available in 60, 70, and 80 inches) and UB30 (sizes range from 43 to 65 inches). The UE30 runs Android TV too, has an ultra-slim bezel and stand, and supports HEVC/H.265 and VP9 codecs. The entry-level UB30 doesn’t have Android TV, but prices are expected to start from under US$1,000.
