One of the reasons why the iPhone is so popular is because it is a very capable shooter. The latest iPhone 6s and 6s Plus both sport 12-megapixel cameras which are a marked improvement over their predecessor's 8-megapixel cameras.

Higher resolution photos aside, the latest iPhones also have new image signal processors, improved auto-focus and local tone mapping. In short, Apple is calling the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus its most capable shooters yet.

To put this to the test, Lisa Bettany, co-founder of the apps Camera+ and MagiCam, decided to take photos with the new iPhone 6s and compare it with all the older iPhones - yes, even the original iPhone from 2007. Photos are taken across eight categories including macro, daylight, portrait, low-light and more.

The results are quite interesting and stunning. Unsurprising, the new iPhone 6s came out tops and Lisa commented, "There is an apparent increase in the speed of auto focus and improvements to colour accuracy, details and sharpness, especially in low light."

Still, its amazing to see how far Apple and mobile imaging has come.
