Seagate has just officially launched their new Backup Plus FAST and Backup Plus Slim portable external hard disk drives here in Singapore. The new drives were recently announced at CES 2014 and features a host of new features.
Boasting a capacity of a whopping 4TB, the new Backup Plus FAST is one of the largest capacity 2.5-inch portable external hard disk drive in the market today - most other 2.5-inch external hard disk drives top out at 2TB. It is also one of the quickest as it has a claimed transfer speed of up to 220MB/s. This is achieved due to the fact that it is comprised of two 2TB drives arranged in a RAID 0 configuration. Interestingly, Western Digital recently launched a 4TB portable external hard disk drive that also uses two drives in a RAID 0 configuration, but with a Thunderbolt interface.
That aside, the Backup Plus Fast is also preloaded with Seagate’s Dashboard backup software, which enables easy backups to be setup and also backs up content on social media websites such as Facebook and Flickr. The Dashboard app has also been updated with a new mobile backup option that wirelessly backs up your smartphone and tablet by using the accompany Seagate Mobile Backup app that is available as a free download on both the App Store and Google Play.
Sticking with the theme of bigger is better, Seagate has also launched the Backup Plus Slim. The Backup Plus Slim will be available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities and will also be available in a variety of colors - blue, black, red and silver. Seagate claims that it is the Backup Plus Slim is the slimmest portable external 2TB drive in the market today.
The Backup Plus Slim will also be preloaded with the latest Seagate Dashboard backup software, which will also include the new mobile backup option that wirelessly backs up your iOS or Android smartphone and tablet.
The drives are all available for sale now with the 4TB Backup Plus FAST going for S$499. The Backup Plus Slim will cost S$89, S$119, S$239 respectively for the 500GB, 1TB and 2TB models.
