Samsung's new AI assistant can use the Galaxy S8 to search and analyze text

One of the most exciting new features of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone is the new AI assistant Bixby.

Aside from its ability to control all native apps on the phone, Bixby is said to be able to do visual search and optical character recognition (OCR) with the camera on the Galaxy S8. The camera app is said to have its own Bixby button, which will open up a search tool to process what you are pointing at. The AI assistant then processes the image to identify objects and text.

SamMobile claims that Bixby's feature in the camera app is somewhat similar to Google's Goggles app though the former has more functionality and deeper integration with other apps.

Samsung is rumored to be unveiling the Galaxy S8 on 29 March with retail launch planned in April. Its retail price is said to start from US$849 (~S$1,204).
