The Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Blu-ray player is now available in Singapore

Available in other countries for quite a few months now, the Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player is now finally available in Singapore.

The UBD-K8500 features a sleek, curved profile, designed to match Samsung’s curved SUHD TVs like the KS9000. It comes with a small remote that’s well-built and easy to use, though strangely, Samsung has chosen to omit dedicated fast forward and rewind buttons (you’ve to hold the skip forward and back buttons instead).

Like how 4K TVs differ from 1080p sets other than resolution, the K8500 isn’t just a higher-res BD player. Targeted at high-end, HDR-capable 4K TV owners who’ve no qualms paying for 4K Blu-ray discs, the K8500’s support for the newer 4K Blu-ray format means you get to enjoy better contrast through HDR and more lifelike colors through the expanded gamut defined in the spec. It can also be used to access content from streaming services Netflix, Amazon Video, and YouTube.

Connection-wise, the K8500 has two HDMI outputs. Expectedly, both HDMI 2.0a (required for HDR) and HDCP 2.2 are supported. You also can use its front USB port to play files from USB flash drives and storage devices. The remaining ports are the optical digital audio output and Ethernet jack. The player also has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Last but not least, the K8500 plays nice with standard Blu-ray discs (including 3D Blu-ray), DVDs, and even CDs. If the content isn’t in native 4K, the player is able to do 4K upscaling.

Priced at S$599, the Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player is now available at major electronics retailers, such as Harvey Norman Millenia Walk.
