Samsung has just announced that it has began mass production of its new 10nm 8Gb DDR4 DRAM chips.

It's worth noting that Samsung first announced production of 20nm 8Gb DDR4 DRAM chips in October of 2014.

According to Samsung, the new 10nm-class memory chips will have better performance and power characteristics. The new chips will boost data transfer rates up to 3200Mbps (up from 2400Mbps) and will also consume around 10% to 20% less energy.

But perhaps most importantly for Samsung, the new 10nm-class memory chips will boost the company's wafer productivity by over 30%.

Finally, Samsung is expected to unveil a 10nm-class mobile DRAM solution later this year for high-end smartphones.
