Samsung Series 5 Hybrid Appearing at IFA 2012?

While most people are busy speculating the Samsung Galaxy Note II's debut at the IFA 2012 in Berlin, Samsung revealed that the Note II isn't the only Samsung device that will be showing the stylus some love.

With the IFA starting in a few days' time, Samsung also ramped up their teasing with an even more revealing picture. According to The Verge, the device is thought to be the Samsung Series 5 hybrid transforming tablet which was first seen during Computex.

This Series 5 hybrid device is basically a stylus equipped tablet, that docks onto a keyboard. As of now, there aren't any specifications available, but the model on display during Computex was running Windows 7. If this new device is exactly the same, then chances of it running a regular Windows 8 OS (instead of the ARM based Windows RT) is pretty high, since Windows 7 does not support ARM chips.

As for build quality, it's likely that it will be similar to that of Samsung's Series 5 notebooks -- which we found to be cheap, cheerful and aimed squarely at the average notebook consumer. And if Samsung is able to reveal such a device months before the official Windows 8 launch date of October 26, it could also mean that units running Windows 8 could reach customers quickly after Windows 8's October launch.

The concept of a transforming tablet isn't new as we have seen a fair share of such devices from ASUS, which led the market with its original Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider in 2011, followed by the more recent Transformer Pad Prime, Transformer Pad TF300 and Transformer Pad Infinity in 2012. Lenovo also hopped on the bandwagon with its ThinkPad Tablet last year, and has launched a Windows 8 version earlier this month.
