Samsung may permanently disable any remaining Galaxy Note7 phones

While most Samsung Galaxy Note7 owners have already exchanged or returned their phone, it looks like Samsung may be planning to permanently disable any Note7's still out there by rolling out an update that would prevent the phone from charging.

An image posted by The Verge showed an alert to a Note7 owner in the US on the US Cellular network stating that  “As of December 15th, Samsung will modify the software to prevent the Galaxy Note 7 from charging. The phone will no longer work.”

In the US, Samsung has already limited remaining Note7's with software updates that prevents the phone from charging past 60 percent. Users also receive a pop-up that tells them the phone has been recalled and should be returned.

While by all counts, most Note7s have already been returned to Samsung, completely disabling the phone's ability to recharge seems to be one final effort to make sure no more Note7's go unaccounted for.

It's unknown at this time if Samsung Singapore will also be disabling any remaining Note7s, however any consumers still holding onto one are highly recommended to return their set. Samsung's exchange programme has ended, but consumers can still get a refund/exchange by contacting 1800-SAMSUNG.
