While rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S III having a Super AMOLED HD Plus display are nothing new, a report by the OLED Association may have confirmed that the upcoming model will indeed be sporting one.

According to the report, Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) is planning to incorporate phosphorescent green in the new OLED display to lower power consumption and make it more "competitive with the retina display at white levels of 40%". The Super AMOLED HD Plus display is claimed to outperform LCDs for images and videos too.

OLED Association - " In 2011, SMD supplied three AMOLED displays, a 4.3” Super AMOLED plus with 217 ppi, a 4.65” Super AMOLED HD with 285 ppi and 5.3” Super AMOLED HD with 285 ppi that lead Galaxy smart devices. The designation Super AMOLED Plus means a side by side pixel configuration. SMD is planning to release a 4.6” Super AMOLED HD Plus with the 319 ppi for the Galaxy S3 Super AMOLED plus in May of this year. "

Another interesting point to note is that OLED Assoication claims that the next generation iPhone will be released in the same time frame as the Galaxy S III. It also pointed out that both phones should have comparable size and pixel density. The current iPhone 4S has a screen size of 3.5-inch and a pixel density of 330ppi. It is still anybody's guess whether Apple will unveil a 4.6-inch iPhone later this year.

The OLED Association report aligns with an earlier article by South Korea-based site DDaily that the Samsung Galaxy S III will use a non-PenTile OLED display with HD resolution. With 17 days left in April, the likelihood of Samsung launching the Galaxy S III in May seems higher.
