In a sign that Samsung Pay is nearing its launch in Singapore, Samsung announced its partnership with Citibank Singapore for its mobile payment service. At time of publication, Citibank joins DBS, OCBC and Standard Charted as the list of banks that support Samsung Pay in Singapore.

“We are very pleased and excited to have Citibank come onboard as our latest partner for Samsung Pay in Singapore,” said Eugene Goh, Vice President, IT & Mobile, Samsung Electronics Singapore. “The partnership with Citibank, alongside our ecosystem of partners across payment networks, banks, retailers and merchants, assures customers that they will be able to enjoy the full benefits of using Samsung Pay almost anywhere in Singapore.”

When Samsung Pay goes live next month, Citibank credit card members can make mobile payments using any of the five compatible Samsung smartphones - the Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note 5 and S6 edge+.

Samsung also provided an update on the Samsung Pay Beta Test Program; response has been "encouraging" with thousands of sign ups. Registration has already closed and eligible customers will be notified progressively.

(Editor's note: We can't help but wonder if this is the reason why Citibank isn't onboard Apple Pay in Singapore yet.)
