Samsung announces the Galaxy J1 (2016) for Singapore

Samsung is bringing an entry-level smartphone at only S$208. The Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) is only 4.5-inches in size, which is great if you want a smaller Android OS phone that packs in all the necessary smartphone functions.

Despite its entry-level price point, the phone has a Quick Launch Camera for on-the-fly photography. You can access the camera by double-tapping the Home button. It has a 5-megpixel rear camera with a lens aperture of f2.2, and a front camera at 2-megapixels.

Within the new Galaxy J1 is a 1.3GHz Exynos 3475 quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB RAM. It’s small and light, at just 132.6 x 69.3 x 8.9mm and 131g. The device has a dedicated microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB on top of its built-in 8GB storage. It’s 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display has 480 x 800 pixels resolution, which gives us a pixel density of ~245 ppi. The Samsung phone uses Android 5.1.1 OS (Lollipop) for its firmware. Network support includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and up to 4G. There’s also Bluetooth 4.1 LE for your short-distance device pairing.

The 2016 version of the Samsung Galaxy J1 will retail at S$208, in either Black or Gold. It can be found at selected local telecommunication operators, major Consumer Electronics Stores, authorized retailers and Samsung Experience Stores. It will be available come 23th April 2016 (tomorrow).
